I wanted to create a really interesting and eye catching photograph for this project. So firstly I looked into what I wanted my theme to be, to construct an interesting narrative. Considering the use of scale.
After doing some thorough research, I really liked the idea of creating scale between a dog and the model, the idea of making the dog look huge in comparison to the model. So I decided to use my own dog as a prop within the location shot and base the theme and narrative around his breed. He is an Egyptian Pharaoh cross, and the range of lying down poses he has reminds me of a Sphinx. I felt I had to experiment with a range of these poses to capture the exact poses I wanted to make him look like a Sphinx. So I had my prop and Egyptian theme, I then went on to think about the location in where I would photograph my dog.
The location had to link to the theme so what better than the beach. The idea of capturing my dog within the surroundings of the beach, I felt would capture and portray the narrative perfectly. I took my dog (George) down to the South Shields beach, and wanted to photograph him just dipped in between the sand dunes so I captured them in the distance with him in the foreground. I wanted the dark blue sky so waited for the sun going down and used a flash gun to capture and highlight George so I didn't loose him against the dark background. I was happy with the final location shot, but wanted to add a few finishing touches to it such as pyramids into the far distance to make it look more Egyptian, rather than my local beach.
I then went on to photograph my model, sticking to the theme I researched into Ancient Egyptian clothing, fashion and key colours. They wore mostly white, golds and browns, which was also the colours I wanted to incorporate into the make-up on the model too.
My model, Anna Sophie Barras is a model from Tyne Tees Models. Whom I know through going to school with. I approached her about modelling for me for this particular project and she was willing to be my model. After working in the studio with a range of outfit changes, compositions, poses and expressions I finally got the shots I was after and ready to photoshop. Anna was a fantastic model who I would love to work with again.
Finally I photoshopped my two images together, included a shadow to make the shot look less 'stuck on' and this is final photograph.
