Creative Hat

So for my first degree project I had to create my own hat that linked in with my model. I had to use low-mid key lighting that we had learnt throughout that week as well as equipment such as a light meter, two boards, a reflector and one flash head.

For my Model I choose one of my friends who has modeled for me before. She is a fantastic model and  I thought she would be great to use for this shoot as I know her so well and wanted to portray character through the models pose, expression, emotion as well as through the hat.

Once I decided on my Model I went on to create the hat and the idea I went with was the Strawberry hat. The reason why I went for the Strawberry hat was because I wanted to choose something that linked to my model as well as myself, something that we both love and always have as friends when we meet up which is, strawberries and chocolate. I thought the idea of constructing a strawberries and chocolate hat would work extremely well with my model as its something that brings out both of our personalities which I wanted to show through my final photograph.

Throughout the shoot I felt it went extremely well and I captured exactly what I wanted, which was the strong bold and cheerful character of my friend through modeling and posing with the strawberries and chocolate hat. Highlighting the lips with red lipstick to further bring out the strawberries and lead our eyes to notice the models expression. I went with a high, mid-key lighting effect with a white backdrop as if I had of used a black backdrop I felt I would have lost my my hat and the models hair. So sticking with the mid-key lighting I felt helped the model capture our eyes.

Although I found the shoot at the time to go extremely well, when looking back through my final photographs, at the very start I did have a few problems with my settings and had to set the ISO settings quite high. This then lead to problems that I noticed when editing my final photograph, which was that there was a lot of unwanted noise within the shot. I tried to fix this through Photoshop which worked quite well but was still a bit of a shame.
